Ervin Omsk – Schmalster Point

Ervin Omsk sophomore release – Schmalster Point is an expansion on his first release Pelien. Schmalster Point opens up with Gewieft wie die Koyoten, loosely translated – wily as a coyote- according to Omsk the track is about figures or beings at different states of existence, microscopic beings having a discussion while being transported is how it reads to us. The record holds humor, joy, and a palatable eeriness. This is apparent in the track Leider zu hell – an unpleasant beam of light – where the Foodman influence is most prominent, like the Japanese artist, the skill of holding tension while emulating joy is masterful. The synthetic swells into almost coherent talking, but never quite reaching clarity. Omsk’s work is the epitome of seamlessly moving between clear structure and total abstraction. This type of approach to electronic music is something that always appeals to us.
