Koeosaeme, aka Ryu Yoshizawa, returns with another distinctive album for Orange Milk. Beige is a flowing suite of paradoxical pleasure; disarming music that is both charmingly strange and compelling. The album is melodic and lush and yet it retains an alien post-internet air. Bristling glitches and mechanical babbles eddy among immersive liquid midi phrases; a disembodied orchestral motif stranded in a data hub. Parts “I” through “III” set a tone for the album’s complex methodologies: a balance is struck between surgical production and impressionistic melody. Beige is subtle but demanding, fluttering seamlessly between cutting edge headphone test tone blipscapes, experimental sound material collage, and minimal neo-classical composition. As Koeosaeme’s work continues to stretch and bend, it becomes more spacious, more arresting, more substantive. Beige is a brilliant work of balance, tension, melody, and sound as emotive gesture.
