Description
Shmu (aka Sam Chown) has spawned back and drops an updated cartridge of exploratory and vibrant, gamified electronic music. On Diino Power: Plastiq Island a cable inside the console has frayed and some relays popped their pathways; as listeners jump between the albums 5 levels and various stages – the album is constructed per a videogame level systems – they whiplash between catchy melodies and sputtering electronic blobulation. Plug into the album and become a character crossing beams between a lush cartoon stream and an emotional and pensive first person creeper. Balancing many far-reaching musical ideas to create a synthesized and immersive world, the album equips listeners with varied inventory; thrashed vocals (including a guest appearance from Fire Toolz) counter lavish synthesizers and granular production details. Icy drums prickle against velvety samples. Organic textures shatter into digital bits. Dino Power: Plastiq Island is an adventure through a short-circuiting musical sandbox. It balances a novel sense of play with an artisanal sense of attention to detail. However uncanny the valley, there is humanity in this music, reflecting back from the home screen.
